ABOUT VERT GRAPES

WHAT ARE THEY?

Scientifically known as Caulerpa lentillifera, Vert Grapes are superfood, and they are one of the only two edible sources of seaweed from the Caulerpa family.

Most notably known as ‘the longevity seaweed’, Vert Grapes are high in iodine, minerals and low in calorific content. Being highly popular in Japan and the Philippines, they are served as starters (seaweed salads) in Japanese cuisines and used as the main ingredient in popular Filipino delicacies.

WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?

Vert Grapes look just like a bunch of grapes, except for their difference in size. Think adorable, miniature globular-like grapes, firmly attached to vertical stems in a compact and compressed manner. They are also known as green caviar due to their uncanny resemblance in size and shape.

Vert Grapes are famous for their salty flavour, and they are smooth to the touch, supple and pulpy in texture. These rich, succulent and soft tiny spheres will pop with an amazing burst of flavour in your mouth instantly, promising you and your palate an unforgettable and savoury experience.

Also known as: Sea grapes, green caviar, ararosip, ararusip, arurusi, Kumejima Umibudô, lato, lelato, raisins de la mer, umi-budō, umibudou, 海ぶどう

WHERE ARE THEY FROM?

Their origins can be traced back to the tropical regions of the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

Currently, Caulerpa lentillifera can be found in Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and Papua New Guinea. They are farmed through pond cultivation in the Philippines, and grown seasonally in tanks in the southern part of Okinawa.

At Vert Grapes, our products are flown and shipped directly from Vietnam, as we believe that Vietnam provides the freshest and finest Caulerpa lentillifera in the region.
